European Handball Federation Unveils Ambitious New Strategic Plan to Elevate Handball’s Popularity Across the Continent
In a bold move to propel handball to new heights, the European Handball Federation (ehf) has unveiled a comprehensive strategic plan designed to promote the sport throughout Europe. The ehf‘s innovative vision aims to increase handball’s global popularity, boost its growth, and foster a sense of community among its member associations.
The "Handball United" plan, announced at the ehf‘s recent Congress in Prague, is centered around five core pillars:
- Marketing and Branding: To raise handball’s profile, the ehf will invest in a targeted marketing campaign, creating engaging content, and leveraging social media platforms to showcase the sport’s excitement, passion, and emotional appeal. A revamped branding strategy will emphasize the values of unity, excitement, and determination.
- Grassroots Development: By supporting and developing grassroots handball, the ehf aims to increase participation numbers, nurture talent, and promote the sport as a positive lifestyle choice for youngsters. A series of programs and initiatives will focus on equipment donation, coaching training, and club development.
- International Competitions: The ehf will invest in enhancing the international handball competition calendar, creating more competitive matches, and strengthening the relationships with key partners, such as the International Handball Federation (IHF) and the Olympic Committee. The organization will also focus on optimizing broadcast and digital streaming arrangements.
- Development and Coaching: To further the growth of handball, the ehf will provide targeted support for national team coaches, while also offering workshops, courses, and camps to develop players and coaches across all levels.
- Social Responsibility and Inclusion: By embracing the core values of solidarity, inclusion, and community, the ehf will foster a sense of social responsibility and encourage handball’s positive impact on society. Programs will be established to promote equality, accessibility, and the benefits of handball for all members of society.
"We are proud to launch our ‘Handball United’ strategic plan, which sets ambitious targets for our federation and the sport as a whole," said the ehf President, Håkon Hauge. "We believe that this plan will inspire a new era of handball development, driven by unity, passion, and a commitment to excellence."
To achieve its goals, the ehf will allocate significant resources to support the plan’s various initiatives. This will include a multi-million Euro budget, with investments in marketing, grassroots development, and coaching and development programs.
The European Handball Federation’s bold strategic plan is poised to have a lasting impact on the sport, not only in Europe but globally. As handball’s popularity and growth accelerate, the sport’s governing body will continue to lead the way in promoting a fast-paced, high-intensity game that demands skill, teamwork, and mental toughness.
