This book helps kids get comfortable with reading. It begins with activities around common experiences like going to the park, going to bed, picking apples, and celebrating birthdays. Each of these parts teaches things like looking at pictures, sequencing events, matching letters, recognizing sounds, and finding rhyming words.
The second half is focused on Max the dog. Max has all sorts of little stories—he runs, jumps, gets dizzy, meets new friends, and even goes to a costume party! These stories help kids build confidence by reading familiar words and answering fun questions.
At the end, there’s an answer key for adults to help guide kids or check their progress. The book uses a very child-friendly approach, with repetition, pictures, and playful learning.

This book was kinda fun. I liked all the stuff with Max, he’s so funny! He jumps, runs, falls, and even gets sad sometimes. The pictures made it easy to understand, and I liked circling things and doing the puzzles. Some pages were like games! I also liked the birthday part and the story where Max meets another Max. That was silly. I didn’t want it to end because Max kept doing something new every time. I hope there’s another book like this one. Max is the best!
